En un ensayo para la revista Life en 1945, escribió: Cuando el general Osborne me vino a ver justo después de la victoria , me preguntó que pensaba que se debe hacer para educar a los alemanes. Le dije que sólo hay una cosa que hacer y es enseñarles la desobediencia si son obedientes , siempre tarde o temprano se organizarán en torno a un hombre malo y estaremos en problemas . Enseñe la desobediencia, le dije, haga que cada niño alemán sepa cuál es su deber , al menos una vez al día a haga su buena acción y que no crea en algo que su padre o su maestro les dice , confundir sus mentes , con sus mentes confusas y tal vez entonces van a ser desobedientes y el mundo estará en paz . Personas obedientes van a la guerra , la gente desobediente a la paz, esa es la razón por la que Italia no ha convertido realmente en un buen integrante el eje, la gente no era lo suficientemente obediente, ...El general de Osborn sacudió la cabeza con tristeza , nunca va a hacer que las cabezas de un ejército lo entiendan..."
